Registration Information

KICKS DANCE STUDIO is dedicated to providing the highest quality dance instruction to children, teens and adults in all forms of dance. Whether you aspire to be a professional dancer, or just want to have fun, KICKS has a dance program for you! Established in 1984, KICKS has earned a great reputation for providing a warm and friendly environment in a professional setting. The dance industry has long recognized the studio for its teaching excellence and team of highly trained and experienced dance instructors. KICKS offers recreational and competitive classes in: Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Acro, Pointe, Musical Theatre, Mini Dance, Combo Classes, Lyrical, Technique, Modern Contemporary, Conditioning and Adult Classes in Hip Hop, Tap and Belly Dancing!

The Dance Season
Dance classes run from the week of September 14th 2009 to the end of May. The dance season is divided into 3 sessions;Session 1 September 14/09-November 30/09, Session 2 November 30/09-March 8/10 and Session 3 March 8/10-May 29/10

Payment
A registration is not considered complete until all post-dated cheques or pre-authorized Visa/Mastercard payments for the entire year are submitted/completed.

Mini Dance 30 minute Class:$100.00 plus gst/session
One Class (45 minutes or 1 hour):$150.00 plus gst/session
Two Classes:$280.00 plus gst/session
Three Classes: $355.00 plus gst/session
Four Classes:$450.00 plus gst/session
Five Classes:$515.00 plus gst/session
Six Classes:$570.00 plus gst/session
Seven Classes:$610.00 plus gst/session
Eight Classes:$640.00 plus gst/session
Nine Classes and up:$670.00 plus gst/session

Method of Payment
KICKS accepts Visa, MasterCard and post-dated cheques (cheques are made out to KICKS Dance Studio). Interac is also accepted for dance wear purchases.

Registration Fee
A $25.00 non-refundable registration fee is required per family with the registration form. Current KICKS students will not be required to pay the registration fee.

GST
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is applicable to all fees.

Family Discount
A 10% discount will be applied to the sibling enrolled in the lesser number of classes.

Schedule of Fees (based on per student) Subject to 5% GST. The dance season is divided into THREE sessions.

Costumes
High quality custom made costumes are ordered for recreational and competitive students. Costumes are not required for students enrolled in Technique, Conditioning, Adult classes and Pre-Teen and Teen Hip Hop.

Pre-Teen and Teen Hip Hop classes will be provided with a list of costume requirements for the recital (students provide their own costume. Hip hop routines usually require an urban/street outfit).

Costumes will be worn at the recitals and competitions. Recreational Costume Payment is due October 15th. You will be notified of the amount in September. A $150 deposit per group costume is required for competitive students on October 15th. Costume Balances are due in February.

Administration Fees and Late Payments
An administration fee of $30.00 will be charged to all NSF cheques.
An administration fee of $25.00 will be charged to late payments and refunds.
It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to submit payment at the time it is due. Payment due date reminders will be posted at the studio, on the website and in all KICKS newsletters. Once a payment is late, a phone call will be made to the parent/guardian and a $25 late payment will be charged. For pre-authorized Visa/Mastercard payments, it is also the responsibility of the parent/guardian to make sure new credit card numbers and/or expiry dates are called in before the payment is due. Dance fees must be paid in full by the due dates in order to attend class. Students will not be permitted in class if fees are not paid.

Refund Policy
There will be a $25.00 administrative fee applied to all refunds issued throughout the year. Session fees are non-refundable after the 4th week of the session. Fees will not be refunded for missed classes or classes taken. Costume fees will not be refunded after November 30th.

KICKS Dance Wear
KICKS sells its very own line of dance wear and accessories. You can purchase KICKS bodysuits, dance pants, dance bags, tracksuits, capri's, flare pants, t-shirts, tank tops, and dance shorts at the studio! Competitive students are required to purchase the KICKS team jacket to wear to competitions.

Dress Code
ALL dancers are required to follow the KICKS dress code:

  • Black cotton tank or camisole bodysuit (students may wear a 'KICKS' bodysuit to class)
  • Tan or Black footed tights (footless tights for Acro)
  • Light Pink footed tights for Ballet classes and Mini Dance
  • Hip Hop classes: Black Cotton/lycra flare pants (students may wear KICKS Flare and/or Capri pants). Black tank top or bodysuit (stomachs must be covered).
  • Boys: Black pants and a white t-shirt.

STUDENTS NOT DRESSED APPROPRIATELY WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO CLASS.

Hair
Hair must be tied back in a neat, secure ponytail. Ballet and Competitive Classes: Secure ballet bun.

  • Pointe - Please do not purchase your pointe shoes until the 3rd class.

Competitive Dance Team
Competitive dancers must take a minimum of 4 classes per week. Jazz, Ballet and Technique classes are mandatory. Dancers who wish to compete in only one dance form must take 3 classes/week (please inquire at registration). Competitive students cannot miss more than 2 classes of their Ballet, Technique and competition classes. The competitive dance team will participate in 4 competitions in April and May. Participation in each competition is mandatory. Dancers may only represent KICKS Dance Studio at dance competitions. Dancers compete in solo, duet, trio small group and large group categories.

Additional Classes
Solos/Duets/Trios/Small Groups will receive 5 hours of instruction.

Competition Fees
Competition fees are due on November 15th. Fees must be paid in full by the due date in order to participate in dance competitions. Families will be notified of their total entry fee amount in October.

Recitals
All students perform in the year end recitals at the Markham Theatre. The annual recital is a very exciting event for everyone involved. The recital dates are: Friday May 28th at 7:00pm & Saturday May 29th at 7:00pm. A stage rehearsal for the recital will be held on Friday May 28th from 2:00-4:30pm. There is no rehearsal fee. Tickets for the year end recital are purchased through the Markham Theatre box office, 905.305.7469. Tickets go on sale in April. All ticket sales are final, no refunds or exchanges. More information regarding the recital will be available in our December newsletter.

The KICKS website is very informative. Please check the website for updates and important information once per week. Useful pages are: Latest News (main page), News and Events (a full calendar of upcoming events and newsletters), and the Fall Registration Page. Students may also create their own KICKS webpage by going to the Personal Pages section. Be sure to visit the photo gallery page, where you can view over 200 pictures!

Administrative Assistants
A warm welcome to Maria Nahri and Samantha Morris, KICKS administrative assistants. They will be happy to answer your phone calls and any questions you may have throughout the year. Administrative Assistants hours are Mon-Thurs 5pm-8pm and Saturdays 9:15am-1pm.

Receiving Important Information
KICKS newsletters will be distributed in class several times throughout the year and will also be posted on the KICKS website. KICKS newsletters contain valuable information about upcoming events and activities at the studio.

Parent Observation Days
Parents are invited to observe their child's dance class(es) for one week at the end of October. The dates of open house will be announced in our first newsletter and posted on the KICKS website in the Fall.

Bad Weather
In the case of a snow storm, please call the studio after 3:30pm for a recording on whether classes will be held. The notice will also be posted on the website after 3:30pm. Parents will not receive a phone call. Make-up classes will be scheduled for cancelled classes.

Holidays
Holidays will generally follow school schedules. Holidays will be posted on the KICKS website and printed in the Fall, Winter and Spring newsletters. KICKS will close for Thanksgiving Monday, Christmas break, Family Day, March break, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Victoria Day. Students enrolled in regular Monday and Friday classes will be given make-up classes due to holidays falling on a Monday and Friday (Thanksgiving, Family Day, Good Friday & Victoria Day). You will be notified of the make-up class date closer to these holidays. KICKS will remain open on the Saturday of Easter weekend and on Easter Monday.

Attendance
Attendance is taken at each class and recognition is given for perfect attendance at the end of the year with an award. Good attendance is imperative; please make every effort to have your child attend every class.

Food and Drink
KICKS is a nut free facility. Please do not bring any products that contain nuts into the studio. Food and drink are only permitted in the kitchen. Water bottles are allowed in the studios.

Summer Programs
Summer dance camps are being held at KICKS in August. There is a 3-4 yr. old half day camp and a 5-9 yr. old full day camp. Please inquire at registration or visit Summer Programs on our website.
