Class Descriptions

Jazz – Jazz is a fundamental dance form that complements all other dance forms. Jazz classes are comprised of a warm-up, centre work and progressions including jumps and turns. Technique and style through choreography are emphasized. Beginner students will learn basic jazz steps, progressive skills and jazz combinations and routines. Jazz is offered to all ages from beginner to advanced.

Tap - Make music with your feet! Students will learn basic, progressive and intricate tap steps and rhythm combinations. Develop and improve timing, rhythm, and coordination. Once you start tapping, you’ll never want to stop!

Ballet - The foundation for all dance forms. Improve strength, poise, balance, and control. Technical skill gained through the study of ballet is necessary for all other forms of dance. Dancers will study the discipline of ballet through the Royal Academy of Dancing (R.A.D.). Students considering competing in dance in the future should enroll in a ballet class.

Hip Hop - Dance to your favorite hip hop music and learn all the current dance steps from today's popular music videos! This program is a high-energy dance experience that is fun for dancers of all ages! KICKS Hip Hop teachers cover the newest Hip Hop and Street moves from L.A. and New York City.

Acro – A combination of dance and gymnastics. Learn how to properly execute acrobatic tricks and develop gymnastics skills. Improve strength, flexibility, agility and physical control in a safe and fun environment.

Musical Theatre – This program combines dance movements with an emphasis on developing acting and performance skills. Routines and combinations are inspired by musicals and movies. Dancers will use facial expressions and body movements to portray different characters and story lines.

Mini Dance - A pre-dance program for young dancers. Basic jazz and ballet steps are learned through fun and creative movement. Specifically designed for three and four year olds.

Jazz/Hip Hop – Combines jazz dance and hip hop into one class. This combo class will present one routine at the annual year end recital in one of the two dance forms.

Lyrical - Combines the beauty and grace of ballet and the style and strength of classical jazz. Music is soft and flowing. Balance, extension, and control are developed. Classes are available for the experienced ballet dancer.

Contemporary – Covers a range of techniques and styles. Contemporary dance is characterized by its versatility. Movement is used as a creative form of expression. Classes available for the experienced Ballet and Jazz dancer.

Belly Hop – Is the fusion between Belly Dance and Hip Hop! Learn the ancient form of Belly Dancing combined with the current styles of Hip Hop dance! This new and exciting class is the next big thing!

Technique and Flexibility - Various stretching and strengthening exercises are performed to increase flexibility, strength, and control. Technical skills are also practiced to improve ballet and jazz technique. Students are taught how to apply their ballet technique to other dance forms. Technique classes are mandatory for competitive dancers.

Conditioning – This program is designed for dancers who are interested in getting “fit”! Dancers will develop the strength required for advanced dance classes. A great workout will be achieved through use of hand weights, exercise balls and other equipment. This class is high energy and a lot of fun. In order to be a strong dancer, you must have a strong body!

KICKS also offers weekly Adult Classes in Hip Hop, Tap and Belly Dancing!

Class Breakdown

Each dance class at KICKS begins with a warm-up in order to prepare the body for exercise and to prevent injuries. Various stretching and strengthening exercises are performed during the warm-up to increase flexibility, strength, and control. Dancers will practice, acquire, and perform dance combinations specific to the type of dance, age, and ability level.

Adult Classes

Hip Hop – This program is a high energy dance experience that is fun for adults too! Adults will enjoy learning funky dance movements performed to popular hip hop music! A great way to stay in shape!

Tap – Make music with your feet! Learn progressive tap steps and rhythm combinations. Develop timing, rhythm, and coordination. Once you start tapping, you’ll never want to stop!

Belly Dancing – Learn this fun and creative ancient dance form! An exciting class, and a great way to get fit!
